LAUDATO SI PARADISE AND KIPEPEO SANCTUARY. (Laudato kipepeo place)

BRIEF OF THE  INITIATIVE

 Introduction:

We are all familiar with POPE FRANCIS letter on care for creation amd environment, “laudato si” “ praised be oh Lord through creation…”

Several initiatives have taken place in the world:

                • Tree Planting in communities and schools
                • Programs aimed at Cleaning of Environment
                • Alternative energy solutions
                • Education on Nature and Creation in schools
                • Water conservation, and Clean Water initiatives
                • Recycling of Wastes

 

The Archdiocese of Nyeri has embarked on green and environmental conservation initiatives at several levels, as a 360 degrees (360º) environmental response.

We have several programs in the pipeline that seek to implement some of the environmental and climate-change goals.

  1. Dedicated 200 acres Forest to enhance Oxygen and Environment (Laudato Si Paradise)
  2. In schools encouraging Tree plantin
  3. Environmental clubs and Community day.
  4. Solar Power Plant that seeks to generate almost 1MWh
  5. Green Hydrogen Plant to combine Green Hydrogen (for fertilizer) and Oxygen production (on course)

The Conservancy

We have a great gift of land thanks to our predecessors, and missionaries of Consolata. Our Mathari land is about 1,000 acres of largely farm land and institutions. 200 acres were been leased to a tea factory to grow eucalyptus for firewood. We succeeded to take up the invitation of People Francis to do something unique.

I have had the joy to visit many times the Karura Forest doinga 5 and 10 km track. I was impressed in how who it had been done.

        • Wonderful tree coverage and nature space
        • Good walking tract
        • Good signage and route markers
        • Good services of washrooms and sitting benches
        • Good relaxation areas

We decided to dedicate the 200 acres to a nature conservancy,  enriching it with novel ideas.

The Dream

        • Create a God Forest area with about 40,000 trees. The major consideration being to have a huge variety, and a larger percentage of indigenous trees.
        • To QR code all trees, with the data of name and details capable through digital interaction.
        • Have a nursery and demonstration station for Educative grafting, mulching, tree planting, etc.
        • Create a huge area for a Butterfly Sanctuary,
        • Seek Benefits for children Nature interaction, Mental Health Therapy, relaxation.
        • A Small Chapel at the corner, with Adoration Autumn Nature, and Space to Pray
        • Wangari Masthai corner: An Education amphitheater for 100pax, where children groups can come to learn at the feet of Wangari Maathai on environment. 2m Statue of Wangari Mathai.
        • A wonder-nature corner: Rare animals, Small enclosed aquarium, and aviary.
        • Entertainment space near the entrance for Easter or other picnics.
