2. About the Parish

Brief Parish History

Our Lady of Farmers Wamagana Catholic Parish is situated in Tetu Deanery of the Archdiocese of Nyeri. It was excised from the larger Tetu Parish in 1988. The pioneer Parish Priest was Rev. Fr. Antonio Gianelli, assisted by Rev. Fr. Rossi.

On 2 April 1989, Archbishop Nicodemus Kirima consecrated the Mother Church. It was dedicated under the patronage of Our Lady of Farmers, following the Marian Year celebrated in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary during the preceding year.

In 1999, Our Lady of Farmers Parish was handed over to the diocesan clergy following the transition of parishes previously administered by the Consolata Missionaries.

  5. St. Anthony of Padua

Since its establishment, Our Lady of Farmers Parish has given birth to three daughter parishes:

  1. St. Joseph Giakanja Parish
  2. St. Padre Pio Ithenguri Parish
  3. St. Paul Karangia Parish

The parish currently has approximately 1,550 Catholic faithful, comprising:

Notable Milestones and Achievements

  1. Administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to 240 candidates.
  2. Baptism of 122 new faithful during the period 2024–2025.
  3. Establishment of a new outstation, St. Anthony of Padua, on 5 April 2026.
  4. Construction of rental houses at Our Lady of Consolata Kagwathi Local Church to accommodate Tetu Technical learners and serve as an income-generating project.
  5. Establishment of a coffee farm with approximately 1,300 coffee bushes as an income-generating project.
  6. Purchase of a 100 × 100 metre plot at a cost of KES 3 million.
  7. Purchase of a new pastoral vehicle.
  8. Construction of a new perimeter wall at the Parish Centre.
  9. Solemnization of seven Christian marriages.
