Catholic Education Day Celebration
The Archdiocese of Nyeri celebrated Catholic Education Day under the theme:
“Rooted in Faith, Rising with Purpose.”
The Holy Mass was presided over by Archbishop Anthony Muheria, with Prof. Stephen Kiama of the University of Nairobi as the Chief Guest. Also present was Mr. Elijah Omwega, Regional Director – TSC.
In his homily, Archbishop Muheria noted that the gathering was a moment to be re-energized, re-oriented, and realigned in purpose, drawing meaning from the life, death, and resurrection of Christ.
Reflecting on St. Paul’s mission to the Greeks, the Archbishop reminded Christians to courageously defend and live their faith, even when the world may not fully understand it.
Using the example of the honey badger and the honey seeker bird, which work together despite their differences, he emphasized the importance of cooperation between teachers, mentors, parents, and learners in nurturing growth and purpose.
Addressing the learners, he reminded them that they are deeply loved by God and carry great worth and potential.
“You are worth much more than people say. Discover God’s purpose in your life and align yourselves with His will.”
He encouraged them to allow the Holy Spirit to guide them so that they may bring meaning, joy, and hope wherever they go.
In his remarks, Mr. Elijah Omwega described the day as a celebration of hard work, discipline, sacrifice, and commitment, encouraging learners to dream big while remaining grounded in strong values.
On his part, Prof. Stephen Kiama noted that education should focus not only on success but also on understanding and addressing the root causes of learners’ struggles. He emphasized that learners possess immense potential for leadership and academic excellence, but must remain open to guidance from teachers and parents.
“It does not matter where learners were rooted before; what matters is where they are rooted now in faith.”
A beautiful celebration of faith-based education, purpose, and the formation of future leaders.
God bless
