2. ABOUT THE PARISH

Brief Parish History

Our Lady Consolata Birithia Catholic Parish was carved out of Othaya Catholic Parish. In 1996, Archbishop Nicodemus Kirima requested Fr. John Maina, then Parish Priest of Othaya, to explore the possibility of establishing a new parish within the Mahiga area. Following consultations with the faithful, Birithia Local Church was selected as the future parish centre.

On 30 December 2008, Archbishop Peter Kairo appointed Fr. Erastus Gathathu to begin the establishment of the new parish. The parish was officially opened on 8 March 2009 by Archbishop Peter Kairo. Later, on 17 July 2016, the Parish Church was dedicated and consecrated by Archbishop Peter Kairo.

  • Every Thursday – Begins with Holy Mass at 4:30 p.m., followed by Adoration until 6:00 p.m.
